The Mob Boss Tossed $5,000 On The Table To Humiliate The Broke Waitress. Her Response Silenced The Entire Restaurant – Part 5

Chapter 5: The Cost Of Loyalty

The rusted warehouse doors groaned and crashed to the floor, kicking up a thick cloud of dust.

Victor stepped into the dim light. His expression was eerily, terrifyingly calm as he assessed the lethal standoff. He was flanked by two heavily armed loyalists, their rifles instantly locking onto Dmitri’s chest.

“Fifteen years of loyalty means nothing when betrayal follows,” Victor’s voice boomed across the concrete floor.

Dmitri panicked, his grip tightening on his weapon. “You’re compromised, Victor! This stupid girl has made you weak!”

“Sentiment is not weakness, Dmitri,” Victor replied, advancing slowly despite the obvious danger. “Did you honestly think I wouldn’t verify her story? Did you think I wouldn’t check the offshore accounts you’ve been secretly skimming from for three years?”

The sudden revelation of his deeper, older betrayal registered heavily on Dmitri’s scarred face.

It was a momentary, catastrophic shock. And it provided the exact microsecond of distraction Anya desperately needed.

She drove her sharp elbow directly into Dmitri’s solar plexus. As he gasped for air, she ripped herself free and dove behind a massive steel shipping container.

“Kill them all!” Dmitri screamed.

Gunfire erupted. Sparks flew like fireworks as bullets ricocheted off the metal surfaces. Anya crawled desperately across the filthy floor, covering her ears as the deafening roar of automatic weapons swallowed the warehouse.

“Cover the left flank!” Victor’s voice commanded over the chaos.

A spray of bullets shattered the high maintenance windows above Anya. Raining, jagged glass sliced across her pale cheek. She army-crawled toward a rusted maintenance door, her heart hammering against her ribs.

Pop. A stray bullet grazed Anya’s left arm. A hot, searing pain blazed across her skin, stealing her breath.

“Keep moving!” she whispered to herself, pressing her bleeding hand against the wound.

The academic who once worried about overdue literature essays now struggled purely to escape a lethal crossfire between warring criminals. The harsh, metallic smell of fresh blood and gunpowder stripped away any remaining illusions about the world she had entered.

Blood loss and adrenaline made the world tilt sickeningly as Anya finally reached the heavy side door.

She threw her body weight against the crash bar. The freezing night air hit her face as she stumbled out into the dark, wet alleyway.

A familiar black town car screeched to a halt right beside her.

Victor emerged from the driver’s seat. His custom, expensive suit was stained with fresh blood, but his dark eyes were focused.

“It’s over,” Victor stated simply, reaching out and gently taking her uninjured arm. “Dmitri will not be betraying anyone ever again. Get in.”
