“You’re Too Heavy,” They Mocked Her—Until the Mafia Don Lifted Her and Claimed Her as His Queen

TOO HEAVY FOR THEM, PERFECT FOR THE MAFIA DON

Chapter 1: The Fall

Crystal Martin had spent most of her life trying not to be noticed.

At thirty-two years old, she was one of the most respected art appraisers in Manhattan. Her expertise was sought by museums, collectors, and auction houses around the world.

Yet none of that mattered when people looked at her.

They only saw her weight.

Tonight, standing inside the magnificent ballroom of the Pierre Hotel, Crystal desperately wanted to feel beautiful.

The emerald velvet gown hugging her curves had taken weeks to design.

For once, she felt confident.

For once, she felt seen.

Then Gilbert arrived.

Her ex-fiancé.

The man who had spent three years convincing her she wasn’t enough.

The man who stole her savings.

The man who destroyed her confidence piece by piece.

“Crystal.”

His voice immediately made her stomach tighten.

Gilbert approached with a thin blonde woman hanging from his arm.

His smile was cruel.

“I see you’ve gained even more weight.”

Crystal’s confidence shattered instantly.

“Leave me alone.”

Gilbert laughed.

“Come on. Everyone’s already looking.”

Several nearby guests turned their heads.

Crystal felt her face burn.

She hated scenes.

Gilbert loved them.

He stepped closer.

“You know, I always wondered how much furniture could actually survive you.”

A few people laughed.

Crystal turned away.

But Gilbert grabbed her arm.

Hard.

“Sit down.”

“No.”

“I said sit.”

Before she could react, he spun her backward.

Her heel caught the edge of her gown.

She lost her balance.

And fell.

CRACK.

The antique chair exploded beneath her.

Wood splintered.

Glass shattered.

Champagne drenched her dress.

For a second, the entire ballroom froze.

Then the laughter started.

Crystal felt tears sting her eyes.

She tried to stand.

Her ankle screamed with pain.

The laughter grew louder.

Gilbert looked down at her with satisfaction.

“Good God, Crystal.”

His voice echoed through the room.

“You’re too heavy for a chair.”

More laughter.

More whispers.

More humiliation.

Crystal closed her eyes.

She wished she could disappear.

Then suddenly…

Everything went silent.

Dead silent.

Chapter 2: The Devil Arrives

A pair of expensive Italian shoes stopped in front of her.

The room seemed to stop breathing.

Crystal looked up.

And forgot how to breathe herself.

Dariel Coleman.

The most feared man in New York.

The man rumored to control an empire worth billions.

The man politicians feared.

The man criminals obeyed.

Dark eyes.

Sharp jawline.

Perfect black suit.

Dangerous.

Beautiful.

Terrifying.

Gilbert immediately stepped forward.

“Mr. Coleman, this is all just a misunderstanding—”

The slap came so fast nobody saw it.

CRACK.

Gilbert crashed into a nearby table.

Blood spilled from his mouth.

A tooth rolled across the marble floor.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Dariel ignored Gilbert completely.

Instead, he crouched beside Crystal.

“Are you hurt?”

The concern in his voice stunned her.

“My ankle.”

Without hesitation, he slid one arm beneath her knees.

The other around her waist.

Then he lifted her effortlessly.

Crystal gasped.

She instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.

“I’m too heavy.”

Years of insecurity escaped before she could stop them.

Dariel’s eyes darkened.

Slowly, he turned toward the crowd.

Every person in the ballroom lowered their gaze.

Fear spread through the room.

Then he spoke.

“Too heavy?”

His voice was low and dangerous.

“No.”

He tightened his hold on her.

“She is perfect.”

The room remained frozen.

Dariel’s gaze swept across every guest.

“If I hear another insult directed at her…”

His voice became ice.

“I’ll make sure it’s the last thing you ever say.”

Nobody laughed after that.

Nobody even breathed.

And for the first time in her life…

Crystal felt protected.

Chapter 3: His Queen

The following morning, Crystal woke inside a penthouse overlooking Manhattan.

She should have been terrified.

Instead, she felt safe.

For the first time in years.

Over the next few days, she discovered the truth about Dariel.

The ruthless mafia don wasn’t cruel.

He was loyal.

Protective.

Obsessively attentive.

He remembered how she liked her coffee.

He ordered clothes tailored specifically for her body.

He never once asked her to become smaller.

Never once made her feel ashamed.

One evening, as New York glittered outside the penthouse windows, Crystal finally asked the question haunting her.

“Why me?”

Dariel stood beside her.

His dark eyes reflected the city lights.

“Because everyone else only saw your body.”

He reached for her hand.

“I saw your heart.”

Crystal’s chest tightened.

Dariel continued.

“You are brilliant.”

A kiss landed softly against her knuckles.

“You are kind.”

Another kiss.

“You are strong.”

His forehead touched hers.

“And you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

Tears filled Crystal’s eyes.

Not from sadness.

But from finally being seen.

For years she had believed she was unworthy.

Too big.

Too much.

Too difficult to love.

Dariel had destroyed every lie.

“You deserve a queen’s throne,” he whispered.

Crystal smiled.

Then she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Then make room for me beside yours.”

And for the first time in a very long time…

She chose happiness.

The city feared Dariel Coleman.

But Crystal Martin?

She owned his heart completely.
