The Arrogant CEO Couldn’t Stand Seeing His Secretary With Another Billionaire – Part 23

Chapter 23: The Resignation

Monday morning arrived with rain.

The cold, punishing kind that made Manhattan look gray and unforgiving.

Jordan stood at his office window, watching the city wake up below him.

Waiting for Martina to arrive.

She was late.

Martina was never late.

At 8:37 AM, the elevator chimed.

Jordan turned, his heart in his throat, and watched her walk into the office.

She was wearing a suit he’d never seen before. Charcoal gray. Perfectly tailored. Expensive.

She looked powerful. Professional. Untouchable.

She looked like she’d already made her decision.

“Good morning, Mr. Blackwell,” she said.

The formality in her voice confirmed his worst fears.

“I have something I need to discuss with you. Do you have a moment?”

“Of course,” Jordan said, gesturing to his office.

“Please.”

She walked past him, and he caught the scent of her perfume. Vanilla and something floral.

He had to close his eyes against the memory of Paris. Of her in his arms on that balcony. Of her tears on his lips. Of thirty-six hours when he’d been allowed to love her without reservation.

She sat in the chair across from his desk.

The visitor’s chair. Not her usual position at his side.

She pulled an envelope from her bag.

White. Official. Final.

“I’m resigning,” Martina said quietly, placing the envelope on his desk.

“Effective two weeks from today. I’m accepting Marcus Ashford’s offer. Director of operations at Ashford Industries. I start on the first of next month.”

The words hit Jordan like bullets.

He’d known this was coming. Had felt it approaching like a storm.

But hearing it made it real in a way his fears hadn’t.

“I see,” he managed, his voice perfectly controlled despite the fact that his entire world was ending.

“May I ask why?”

“Because I deserve more than this,” Martina said simply.

“More than being invisible. More than being valued only when someone else sees my worth. More than waiting for you to decide I matter.”

“You matter,” Jordan said desperately, leaning forward.

“Martina, you matter more than anything. Paris wasn’t a game. My feelings aren’t a competition with Marcus. I love you.”

“I know you do,” she interrupted gently.

“I believe you, Jordan. I believe that right now, in this moment, you love me. Or at least you think you do.”

“But I don’t know if you love me enough to actually change. To actually see me as an equal instead of an asset. To actually build a life with me instead of fitting me into your life when it’s convenient.”

“I’ll change,” Jordan promised.

“I am changing. You saw that in Paris.”

“Paris was a fantasy,” Martina said, and her voice was kind but firm.

“Paris was you on your best behavior trying to win me back. But real life isn’t Paris. Real life is this office where I’ve spent five years being undervalued.”

“Real life is you getting a text from Marcus and immediately trying to compete instead of asking me what I actually need.”

“Real life is the fact that you only started seeing me when another man wanted me.”
