The Billionaire Pretended To Be Blind… Then The Maid’s Toddler Held His Hand And Whispered 3 Words – PART 4

Part Four: The Reckoning

The next morning, Adrien Cole stood in front of a room full of cameras and removed his sunglasses for the entire world to see. Admitting the truth about his sight. His broken engagement. The test that had cost him nearly everything.

Except, as it turned out, the one thing that actually mattered.

Melissa’s legal case collapsed within hours. Her own recorded phone calls surfacing publicly through Richard Voss’s careful legal maneuvering, revealing exactly what she had been after all along. The news cycle was brutal, relentless, exactly what Adrien had feared. He was called a liar, a manipulator, a man who had played with people’s emotions for sport.

But there was a strange relief in it too. The relief of no longer having to pretend. Of no longer hiding behind dark glasses. Of no longer being afraid of the truth.

Two days after the press conference, Sarah came back to work. She arrived at 6:00 in the morning, as always, with Lily’s small hand wrapped around her fingers. She walked past Adrien in the hallway without speaking. He didn’t stop her.

But that evening, after Lily had fallen asleep in the guest room, Sarah found him in the kitchen. She stood in the doorway for a long moment before speaking.

“I read the headlines,” she said quietly. “You told them everything. About the accident. About Melissa. About why you did it.”

“I told them the truth,” Adrien said. “Finally.”

Sarah stepped into the room. “My father—he was a proud man. He never forgave your father’s company for what they did to him. He died angry.” She paused. “I didn’t want to be angry. That’s why I took this job. Because I needed to survive. And I thought if I could just—work hard, stay quiet, keep my head down—maybe I could stop being angry too.”

“Can you?” Adrien asked quietly. “Stop being angry?”

Sarah was quiet for a long moment. “I don’t know yet. But I know that Lily loves you. And I know that when you knelt down in that study, you weren’t performing. That was real.” She met his eyes. “I’m not ready to trust you completely. But I’m willing to try.”

Adrien nodded slowly, something in his chest easing for the first time in days. “That’s all I can ask.”
