She Treated The Mafia Boss’s Wound At Midnight, But When He Ordered “Bring Me That Woman,” She Realized The Man Who Broke Her Had Been Guarding Her From The Dark – Part 7

Chapter Seven: The Truth In Two Pieces

Elena confronted Damian that night.

Not in anger.

Worse.

Control.

He sat in the study, shirt open, bandage clean, face strained.

She placed her father’s debt papers on the desk.

“Anton said my father came to you first.”

Damian closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

“You left that out.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because it makes him look worse.”

“He deserves worse.”

Damian looked at her then.

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

“He asked me for money. Cash. No questions.”

“To pay Varga.”

“To keep gambling.”

Elena’s jaw tightened.

Damian continued.

“I agreed to pay his creditors directly if he entered treatment and signed control of his accounts to a legal trustee.”

“And he refused.”

“Yes.”

“So he sold me.”

Damian said nothing.

He did not need to.

Elena sat down.

The room moved around the edges.

Her father had not been desperate once.

He had been given an exit and chosen the knife.

“He wrote me a letter.”

Damian’s face changed.

“You read it.”

“Yes.”

“I never did.”

That surprised her.

“Why?”

“It was not mine.”

She laughed once.

Broken.

“You watched my life for seven years, but you drew the line at a letter?”

“Yes.”

“Damian.”

“I know.”

He looked tired.

Not wounded this time.

Just tired of being exactly what he was.

Elena folded the letter slowly.

“You made yourself the villain.”

“I was one.”

“To protect me.”

“And to avoid asking forgiveness.”

That was the truest thing he had said.

Elena looked at him.

“You do not get forgiveness because your reason was noble.”

“It was not noble.”

“Good.”

“It was fear.”

She nodded.

That she could believe.

A phone rang.

Luka entered without knocking.

His face was hard.

“Nikolai is gone.”

Damian stood.

Elena did not stop him.

This time, he had not caused the crisis by arrogance.

This time, someone had taken his brother.

Luka continued.

“Anton’s men left a message.”

He placed a phone on the desk.

A video played.

Nikolai tied to a chair in an abandoned clinic, bruised but alive.

Anton’s voice filled the room.

“Bring me the doctor, Damian. Or your brother pays for every year you wasted loving her.”

Elena watched Damian’s face lose all color.

Then she took the phone.

“No.”

Damian looked at her.

Her voice was steady.

“He wants me because he thinks I am your weakness.”

“You are.”

The answer came instantly.

Too honest.

Too late.

She swallowed.

“Then we use that.”

“No.”

“Damian.”

“No.”

“You do not decide for me anymore.”

That stopped him.

The room held its breath.

Elena stepped closer.

“This time, I choose the danger.”

His eyes darkened with terror.

But he did not stop her.

That was the first real proof he had changed.
