CHAPTER 15: THE MAFIA’S SALVATION
Julian smiled weakly, a genuine, relieved expression that completely transformed his bloody face.
“You’re a terrifying woman, Clara,” he murmured, closing his eyes as the pain finally overtook him.
“You have absolutely no idea,” Clara whispered back into the darkness.
Three months later, the Vance estate was completely rebuilt.
The broken glass was gone, replaced by expensive imported marble, and the bullet holes were painted over with pure white.
Clara stood in the grand living room, wearing a stunning black dress that perfectly matched the dangerous aesthetic of the house.
She watched fondly as Julian sat on the floor, clumsily but proudly signing a full sentence to a laughing Leo.
Julian looked up, catching Clara’s eye across the massive room.
The dangerous, lethal edge in his dark eyes vanished, replaced entirely by a burning, obsessive devotion.
He stood up and walked over to her, his large hands slipping naturally around her waist.
“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Vance?” Julian murmured, kissing the side of her neck.
Clara smiled, resting her head against his broad, completely bulletproof chest.
She had come to clean a house, and she ended up cleaning out the entire Chicago underworld just to keep her family safe.
“I’m thinking that I should definitely ask for a raise,” Clara whispered, pulling his face down for a kiss.
Every monster needs a weakness, but in the end, Clara had become his greatest strength.
Would you have stayed in the darkness to find your true light?
