“They’re Here for Me,” the CEO Whispered — 15 Seconds Later the Single Dad’s Identity Froze Her – PART 5

PART 5:

” Vivian swallowed the lump forming in her throat. “I’m sorry.” “Don’t be.” Harrison said, his voice hardening slightly. “I hunted down every single man responsible for Rome. It took me 6 months. When I was finished, there wasn’t a syndicate left in Europe willing to say my name out loud. That’s why Russo practically wet himself tonight.

They know what I am capable of when my family is threatened. He slid out of the booth, carefully scooping the sleeping Harper into his arms. The little girl mumbled incoherently, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face in his shoulder. “Come on, Your Highness,” Harrison said, gesturing toward the door with his chin.

“The rain is stopping and this diner smells like despair. My men are pulling up outside to escort you back to your empire.” The storm had finally broken, leaving the Hoboken streets slick and glistening under the pale pre-dawn light. The heavy, oppressive humidity had been washed away, replaced by the crisp, biting chill of early morning.

As Vivian stepped out of the diner, the cool air hit her face, grounding her in a reality that felt entirely alien from the one she had inhabited just hours prior. Idling perfectly in the diner’s pothole-riddled parking lot were two heavily armored, matte black SUVs. They looked identical to the ones Russo had arrived in, but the men standing beside them were vastly different.

These men didn’t wear slick charcoal suits or carry themselves with the arrogant swagger of corporate mercenaries. They wore tactical dark clothing, their postures rigid, their eyes scanning the perimeter with the disciplined, lethal efficiency of active-duty special operators. When Harrison walked out the diner doors carrying Harper, every single operative in the parking lot immediately snapped to attention.

They didn’t salute, that was too visible, but the absolute deference in their posture was undeniable. A tall, broad-shouldered man with a closely cropped beard stepped forward, opening the rear door of the lead SUV. “Mr. Cross, the perimeter is secure. Donovan sends his regards. The target has been acquired and the financial assets are locked in our holding accounts. “Thank you, Mitchell.

” Harrison said quietly, keeping his voice low so as not to wake the child in his arms. He gently placed Harper into the plush, climate-controlled backseat, buckling her in with practiced, meticulous care. He draped his canvas jacket over her small shoulders like a blanket. Vivian stood awkwardly by the diner’s entrance, her ruined Louboutins sinking slightly into the wet asphalt.

She felt entirely out of place, a displaced queen standing in the court of a true kingmaker. Harrison closed the SUV door and turned to face her. The early morning light caught the jagged scar on his jaw, highlighting the harsh, unrelenting lines of his face. “Mitchell and his team are going to drive you to a secure Vanguard safehouse in Midtown.

” Harrison instructed, his tone professional, devoid of the familiar banter they had shared over the diner table. “You will be provided with clean clothes, a secure communications line, and top-tier legal counsel. By 9:00 a.m., the FBI will publicly raid Croft Innovations headquarters. The corrupt board members will be arrested on federal warrants.

Your name has been completely scrubbed from the offshore ledgers, and you will be framed as the cooperating victim who provided the anonymous tip.” Vivian nodded slowly, processing the immaculate, flawless execution of her salvation. “And Jonathan Reed?” “Reed is currently sitting in a concrete room with no windows, realizing that his money cannot save him.” Harrison replied coldly.

“When we are finished auditing his mind, we will hand him over to the feds, wrapped in a neat little bow. You will never have to look over your shoulder for him again.” “I I don’t know how to repay you.” Vivian admitted, the words tasting foreign on her tongue. Billionaires did not owe debts. They leveraged them.

But she knew instinctively that all the money in her vast global accounts could not buy the favor of the man standing in front of her. Harrison stepped closer, bridging the distance between them. Despite his casual flannel shirt and blue collar disguise, his presence was overwhelming, demanding absolute submission.

“You don’t owe me anything, Vivian.” Harrison said, his pale gray eyes locking onto hers. “I didn’t do this for you. I did this because Reed used my infrastructure and he brought a loaded gun within 10 ft of my daughter. But, you need to understand something very clearly.” Vivian held her breath, her heart pounding against her ribs.

“What?” “I am stepping back into the shadows.” Harrison murmured, his voice a dangerous velvet threat. “I am going back to being a mechanic and I’m going back to raising my little girl in peace. But, Vanguard is officially watching Croft Innovations. If you ever allow your executives to cross into my territory again, if I ever find out your company is dealing with cartels or syndicates, I won’t send an audit team.

” He leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper that sent a shockwave of ice straight down her spine. “I will come for the building myself and I will burn it to the ground with you inside it. Do we have an understanding, Ms. Croft?” Vivian swallowed hard, her mouth completely dry. She looked into the eyes of the ghost, the myth, the undisputed apex predator and nodded.

“We have an understanding, Mr. Croft.” Harrison’s terrifying expression evaporated instantly. The lethal edge vanished, replaced once again by the exhausted, mild-mannered father she had met in the booth. It was a terrifyingly fast transition. “Good.” He smiled warmly. “Take care of yourself, Vivian, and next time you go on the run, wear sensible shoes.

” He turned away, walking around to the driver side of the lead SUV. He climbed in, shutting the heavy armored door with a solid echoing thud, Mitchell stepped up to Vivian gesturing politely toward the second vehicle. “Ms. Croft, if you please.” Vivian allowed herself to be guided into the immaculate leather interior of the tactical vehicle.

As the doors locked and the convoy pulled out of the diner parking lot, she looked out the tinted window. The neon sign of Eddie’s 24-hour diner flickered behind them, a beacon of cheap coffee and greasy food in the Hoboken dawn. She had walked into that diner as a hunted prey, stripped of her empire and terrified for her life.

She was leaving it with her throne restored and her enemies annihilated. But as she watched Harrison’s SUV turn down the wet city streets, disappearing seamlessly into the morning traffic, Vivian Croft knew one undeniable truth. She was a billionaire CEO who commanded global industries, but she would never, ever forget who truly ruled the world.
